WEEK 1 Of SUSTAIN: Introduction to SD

As usual for the first class of the semester, we started off with introduction to the course and also with our classmates, or should I say "ice-breaking".  To add up a little spice, Sir comes up with an activity where each of us have to prepare a single word to describe ourselves. I chose adaptable.

Well the reason being is because I would like to think that water flows easily with others so its the same as it can adapt to any situations. For me, that is pretty much the most sustain way to live your life and from my perspective, it is quite advantageous.

That is all for the fun part, then wo moved on to our real lectures and that is the Introduction To Sustainable Development.

In this lesson, we learnt that:

1. Sustainable Development (SD) means that Development that meets current needs without harming future generations; ability to meet their own needs

2. The goal of SD is to balance these these three important aspects that is economic growth, social well-being and environmental protection.

3. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is an extended version of Millennium Development Goals (MDG)

4. 5 Principals of SD: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership

5. Basic Concept of Sustainablity:

    • Living within certain limits of the earth's capacity to maintain life.
    • Understanding the interconnections among economy, society and environment.
    • Maintaining a fair distribution of resources and opportunity for this generation and the next.
